Roy G. Biv

Kindergarten students met my good friend Roy today. Roy G. Biv. Have you heard of him? He is a little wacky, but he helps us to remember the color wheel in order. Roy G. Biv. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet. Students mixed the secondary colors (orange, green, and purple) from the primaries (red, blue, and yellow) to help style Roy's daring hair-do. THANKS FOR HELPING US LEARN ABOUT ART, ROY!

  1. How do you explain indigo? I noticed Roy's hair does not have it. Thanks.

  2. Hi Mrs. M! That is a good question. To be honest, we just briefly discussed that indigo is another name for purple. I found that we were down to the wire time-wise with these six colors. If I was to do it again however, I might take the opportunity to show and discuss the difference between the two and have students try to mix slightly different shades (indigo with a tiny bit more blue than red). If you decide to do this, please let me know how it goes!
