Second graders were introduced to chalk pastels this week as well as value in art. Value describes the light and dark areas in a picture. Artists use value to make their drawings look real. Chalk pastels are blended to create smooth transitions in between colors and - as students learned through experience - are a very messy (and FUN) material to use.
