I have one last project to share with you all! First graders enjoyed using chalk so much that we ended the year with these beautiful toucans made with chalk pastels. I foresee some beautiful sidewalk art popping up over the summer in town :)

Hello Heather - We began with black construction paper and did a step-by-step drawing of the toucan together in pencil. Students were instructed to add six or more leaves (cropped) on the edges of the page and at least two flowers. We outlined the pencil with a black oil crayon, being careful not to smudge. Students then used chalk pastel to fill in the empty spaces, leaving the darkest color for last and trying their best to keep arms and elbows off the page! Let me know if you have any more questions.
