I have one last project to share with you all! First graders enjoyed using chalk so much that we ended the year with these beautiful toucans made with chalk pastels. I foresee some beautiful sidewalk art popping up over the summer in town :)
Hi Mrs. A…just stopping by to say how much I love all your art lessons. I just spent 10 minutes scrolling through and pinning my faves. Thanks for sharing! Patty (Deep Space Sparkle)
Hello Patty! Thank you for stopping by. I am especially happy that you enjoy the lessons and ideas here because your blog was often a topic of discussion in meetings with my colleagues the last two years!! We very much enjoy the work that you do. While I am currently taking a break from teaching to pursue my MFA in painting, I continue to follow your blog for future reference. If you are interested in art blogs in general, I am keeping up another little spot on the internet (www.andsoshedrew.blogspot.com) while I am on hiatus from Art with Mrs. A. Take care! -Maria
Hello Heather - We began with black construction paper and did a step-by-step drawing of the toucan together in pencil. Students were instructed to add six or more leaves (cropped) on the edges of the page and at least two flowers. We outlined the pencil with a black oil crayon, being careful not to smudge. Students then used chalk pastel to fill in the empty spaces, leaving the darkest color for last and trying their best to keep arms and elbows off the page! Let me know if you have any more questions. I would be happy to elaborate further. :)
