Fourth Grade Looks at Value

Well, spring break was wonderful and now it is time to get back to school! This project is sure to brighten your day. Fourth grade students discussed value in art (again, this word seems to pop up a lot!). Imagining a light and shadowed side, they used value to emphasize the form of these gumball machines rendered with chalk pastels:

  1. Love this project. Did you have a gumball machine for them to look at or did you go through step by step to form the shapes. Excellent artwork!

  2. Hi Linda! Thank you! We did a step-by-step drawing together first. I had circle templates for the glass container and the gumballs.
