Third graders have been hard at work for the past few weeks on these mixed media (cut paper and paint) portraits based on the work of artist Pablo Picasso. They really got creative and I love the different personalities expressed in each one.
In class we took a virtual field trip to New York's Museum of Modern Art to view Picasso's painting Night Fishing at Antibes from 1939 (pictured below). What do you see? Students dug deeper to find meaning in the arrangement of abstract shapes and colors. Click HERE, scroll down to "MoMA Multimedia", and take a trip to Antibes and into the work/mind of Pablo Picasso, one of the most notorious artists of the twentieth century.
